Konga sacks over 300 of its workers
Konga, one of Nigeria’s top e-commerce website has laid off over 60% of its staff according to a source. The source further disclose that over 300 workers were laid off yesterday (Nov. 30) as the e-commerce giant struggles to survive in the online shopping industry.
CEO Shola Adekoya informed staff of the cuts today (Nov. 30) and said the company will adopt a leaner business model. The former employee also said that there was speculation that Sim Shagaya, the company’s founder and former CEO, would be returning to the role. Shagaya stepped down in Jan. 2016 two weeks after Konga sacked 10% of its staff.
The source also revealed that, the company also promised to pay the workers 5 months salaries upfront, the sack is coming as a measure from the company to survive. Recall that Konga stopped Payment On Delivery option some days back.
