Vivo APEX FullView Concept Smartphone Unveiled at MWC 2018

Vivo recently launched the world's first in-display fingerprint device "Vivo X20 Plus" which was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2018) in January. The company didn't just stop at that as they have also announced at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018) in Barcelona its coming device which is a FullView concept smartphone called APEX that has the world's highest screen-to-body ratio and half-screen in-display fingerprint scanning technology.

Vivo Apex will be officially presented next March 5 during an event to be held at the Hangzhou Institute located in the homonyms Chinese city. Recall that, at the moment, the terminal is little more than a concept phone and there are no official specifications, so it is likely that all the details concerning this very interesting smartphone are unveiled over the next few days. Below we present the first press images:

At the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Vivo arrives with a new concept phone, Apex. It already makes the fingerprint scanning technology under the display obsolete, of which Vivo itself has been a pioneer, thanks to X20 Plus UD. In Vivo Apex, the fingerprint scanner does not reside at a precise point below the screen but occupies its entire lower half (in fact something less).

Vivo Apex also amazes because it is practically the whole screen: there is no space even for the front camera, which is hidden. When necessary, it protrudes from the upper side; ejection takes place via software and is gradual (requires 0.8 seconds). The screen works as a speaker for audio calls, thanks to Screen SoundCasting technology.

The frames are just 1.8 mm on the sides and top, while the bottom one is a bit thicker, 4.3 mm. Everything else is displayed (naturally OLED, a fundamental prerequisite for this particular fingerprint scanner to work).

In short, the smartphone we had seen in recent days is a reality, but unfortunately, it is only a prototype. There are no prices, release dates or technical specifications. The device still seems quite complete and working in all its parts.

The next objective, for Vivo, is to make the fingerprint scanner even faster, at least on a par with the traditional ones, and to file a few millimeters further from the lower frame, to achieve absolute symmetry. At that point, the screen/body ratio would be over 98 percent!
