Microsoft to end support for Windows 7 by 2020

After providing support for the Windows 7 since its release in 2009, Microsoft is set to end support for the Operating System in 2020. This will raise concern for companies who rely on the OS for security support.

One of the reasons why this is of serious concern is the effect of a security breach. A report back in 2017 by Kaspersky Lab show that a security breach could cost a company up to $861,000, this is a cost most companies will try as much as possible to avoid.

As a result of this news, its time for companies who rely heavily on Windows 7 to move on with options of Windows 8 or 10. But Windows 10 might be a better option as it provides a rich and well-developed operating system with solutions to many of the challenges and issues presented by Windows 8, it also comes with a seamless and secure user experience.

Other features of Windows 10 is the easy to upgrade path and incorporated a plethora of enterprise security features, latest chipsets and the provisions of regular updates to ensure it remains ahead of cyber threats.

Upgrading to Windows 10 might come with its own challenges, one of which is the financial implication as the OS works better on newer devices. This might mean changing the entire office PC for some organizations.

Whether they like it or not, PCs still on Windows 7 will eventually need to be upgraded in the next two years, in anticipation for the complete rollout of the Windows 10 operating system, which according to Microsoft provides, on average, up to 28% faster startups, built-in security, and more apps.
